Proper care in the first few days after PPF film installation affects how long and how well it will do its job. Here are the most important rules.
The first hours and days
- Don’t wash the car for at least 72 hours after installation — in winter this time may be longer.
- Small water bubbles that may appear right after application disappear on their own over time — don’t pop them or press them out with your finger.
Everyday washing
- Regular hand washing with a mild detergent and a soft cloth is recommended.
- Don’t point a strong, high-pressure water stream directly at the film edges from close range — it can cause the film to lift.
- Remove insects and other dirt from the film quickly — the longer they stay, the harder they are to remove without a mark.
Polishing — in moderation
The film’s surface can be gently polished (with a soft foam pad) to remove minor dirt and restore its original clarity — recommended once every two years. It’s worth remembering, though, that every polish wears away a bit of the protective layer (top coat), which can speed up future dirt build-up and slightly shorten the coating’s lifespan.
Good habits for the long run
Regular, gentle washing and avoiding harsh chemicals is the best way to keep your PPF film’s protective and aesthetic properties throughout the entire warranty period.
